      LAKE ALMANOR CLEANUP
SEPTEMBER 13, 2008

Nearly 70 community members participated in the first annual Lake Almanor Clean-up on Saturday, September 13. The event began at 9AM at Chester Park. Volunteers formed small groups and spread out around the lake to pick up garbage. They tackled the Feather River, the Chester Meadows area, the Almanor Causeway, Hamilton Branch, West Shore beaches, and the flood control channel.

By the end of the day, two dumpsters were almost overflowing with 19 cubic yards of garbage. Volunteers were rewarded for their hard work with a complementary barbecue sponsored by PG&E.

The Lake Almanor Clean-up will be held next year on Saturday, September 19, 2009

Mark your calendars now!

“The upper Feather River watershed is the primary source of water for the State Water Project, which serves over 23 million Californians,” explained Kristy Hoffman, Community Outreach Coordinator with the Feather River Coordinated Resource Management Group. “This is one way that local residents can directly participate in improving water quality.”

The clean-up was sponsored by the Almanor Basin Watershed Advisory Committee (ABWAC), the Feather River Coordinated Resource Group, and PG&E, with support from CalTrans, Plumas County Department of Public Works, the Plumas County Resource Advisory Committee, and Feather River Disposal.
