National Community Forestry Center

ABOUT PWCFC:

OTHER COMMUNITY FORESTRY CENTERS:

The Pacific West Community Forestry Center is one of four regional centers or field stations, that are part of the National Community Forestry Center, a project of the National Network of Forest Practitioners.

The objectives of the National Center and its field stations are to:

  • Increase the capacity of rural communities to access, use, and produce information about issues that concern them
  • Provide training and technical assistance to communities
  • Build community capacity for self-determination, conservation, and economic enhancement
  • Develop processes to integrate local knowledge, experience, and participation in efforts to enhance and protect the natural resource base on which forest communities depend
  • Develop participatory processes that engage rural communities, practitioners, and researchers in community-based research, learning, action, and evaluation
  • Make science more accessible to rural people in forested areas

The National Community Forestry Center in Providence, Rhode Island, coordinates communications among the four regional centers.
