Women’s Collaborative for Health & Nutrition: Proyecto Salud seeks not only to gain information about community needs and strengths, but to strengthen community relationships, build capacity to collaborate, and initiate community-based responses to health and wellness needs. One of the outcomes of Proyecto Salud is la Colaboración de Mujeres para Salud y Nutrición (the Women’s Collaborative for Health & Nutrition). The Women’s Collaborative is a group of Mexican American women who meet to share fellowship, good food, and to identify ways to support health in their families and community. The Sierra Institute facilitates the Women’s Collaborative in partnership with the Feather River Community Partnership. Sabores de Mexico – A Community Cookbook: The Women’s Collaborative thought of a brilliant way to have fun and to build relationships both within the Latino community and with the broader Plumas County community – a bilingual community cookbook. They gathered recipes from friends, neighbors, and family to create Sabores de Mexico (Flavors of Mexico). The Spanish word sabor describes the “flavor” of food, but has a much richer meaning. A person who lives with sabor lives from the heart, with gusto. The women’s vision for the cookbook is to build community, raise funds for health-related projects and events, and to share their culture – and their heart – with others. To order your copy, call the Sierra Institute at 284-1022 or the Feather River Community Arts Center at 832-4518. Suggested donation is $10 per book. |
