communities

Rural people interact with their environment and their communities in very personal ways, whether it’s working the land, restoring waterways, managing forests, volunteering in local schools, or helping neighbors out during a fire.

The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment works with rural communities to advance rural community wellbeing and sustainable ecosystems.

Founded in 1993, the Sierra Institute is a non-governmental, non-profit research and education organization based in the northern Sierra Nevada town of Taylorsville, California.
