Plumas/Feather River Canyon Woody Renewables Project

The Sierra Institute has contracted with TSS Consultants to analyze market information, and supply and transportation techniques, to cost effectively move low-value woody renewables to value-added markets in the region. The TSS assessment will confirm and quantify existing local and regional markets (commercial and niche) for sub-merchantable logs and woody renewables through a variety of methods. The feasibility study is currently underway and is expected to be completed by mid-December 2011.
“There is an urgent need to bring these stands back into a healthy condition,” said Bill Wickman, local project contractor for TSS. “Our watersheds are in need of restoration, and proper biomass treatment will proactively treat the overcrowded stands, address forest and watershed health, increase vital water storage in the watersheds, and address hazardous fuels that can lead to catastrophic wildfires.”
