The Sierra Institute's Center of Forestry offers outdoor educational tours that focus on pioneering natural resource management in the northern Sierra Nevada and highlight achievements of local forest and watershed groups and agencies.
The tours explore the complex relationship between natural resource management and the economic and cultural health of rural communities. These educational tours offer an opportunity to get off the beaten path and explore a mix of people, places, and projects in the northern Sierra.
For only $50 per person or $95 per couple, you can enjoy an air-conditioned bus ride, morning refreshments, a tasty lunch, with snacks and beverages throughout the tour while viewing the beautiful scenery, learning from knowledgeable and articulate guides, and enjoying the company of like folk who are wanting to learn more about the Sierra Nevada; it's past, present, and future.

Center of Forestry Support Matches Year-End Donations!
A very special supporter offered to double Center of Forestry gifts for our Year-End Appeal. The result is that every dollar given counted for two, helping us offer the educational tours that have become so popular.
Tours held throughout Plumas and Lassen Counties in 2011 introduced Californians and those from out-of-state to examples of natural resource management old and new, and helped people understand how healthy human communities and local landscapes support one another. From the geology of the Sierra to the wilderness of Ishi, experts shared their particular knowledge about the rural communities, watersheds, and history of the Sierra Nevada.
A special thank you goes out to all who have participated in our Year-End Appeal by contributing to our educational outdoor tours. Fees collected from tour participants cover just one-third of the costs. As a Center of Forestry supporter, you will receive regular updates on upcoming programs, and with a $50 donation, a discount on a 2012 tour. This is an excellent way of investing in the community, natural resource education, and helping to ensure tours are sustained in the future. Your donation helps us launch the most exciting tour season ever, and share the lessons from our expert tour leaders with more people.

Tips to remember when participating on a tour:
SHOES: Always wear comfortable walking shoes. Some of our tours involve more walking than others. Be sure to check the 'activity level' for each tour to determine if it is the right tour for you.
WATER: We encourage you to bring your own re-fillable water bottle which can be re-filled during the tour from our water jug. Various beverages will also be offered during the tour.
