Girls Night Out in Humbug Valley
August 17th & 18th - An Overnight Campout

Humbug Valley

Overview

In 2009 we started touring in the Humbug Valley, near Lake Almanor.  This has been a special place for the Maidu for hundreds of years.  Beverly Ogle, Maidu / Yahi Yani Indian historian and author of two books on the indigenous peoples of Sierra Nevada, (Whispers of the Maidu and Spirit of Black Rock) will lead this tour sharing history and stories of the area. As part of the Maidu Consortium, Beverly will be able to share with us the current Maidu projects scheduled for this land.

We'll not only visit Soda Springs to taste the soda water and to see the new Tasmam-Koyam monument marking the importance of the Maidu in the area but we'll visit many other sights in pioneer and Maidu history.

We begin the day early afternoon at Lassen Ranger Station in Chester for introductions.  Carpooling, we will travel on Hwy 89 to Yellow Creek Campground turnoff and drive to the campground.  On our way in, we'll stop at various sites to learn more about the historical implications of this area.  After touring Humbug Valley, we will return to Yellow Creek campground where we will set-up camp, make a campfire dinner, and spend the evening star-gazing, storytelling, and having a great time.

On this tour you'll need to bring your camping gear...
tents, sleeping bags, and whatever else that will make you comfortable as we camp overnight.
Food and food stuffs (such as utensils, plates, et cetera) will be provided.

Activity level: Moderate
