Friday Nights at 7pm until 10pm - Community Recreation Center Greenville - Indian Valley
Originally sponsored by the Sierra Health Foundation and Indian Valley Recreation and Parks Department, Friday Night For Teens began in the spring of 2011. It wasn't long before Sierra Institute, through a grant from The California Endowment, partnered with the IVRPD and started sponsoring these nights for teens.

A variety of themes are presented for the teens including game night, movie night, pool party, dancing and karaoke nights. Each night healthy snacks are offered from pizza to fruits to a BBQ burger night with vegetables from the local community garden, and a nacho bar. And everyone enjoyed the "Saturday Night for Sundaes"!
The evenings are geared for fun, fun, fun for the teens. It's a perfect evening for 'hanging out' and catching up on the latest. Meeting at the Community Recreation Center, teens can hang-out inside or out. S'mores and a fire pit are always a hit! Bean bags chair set the comfort zone for watching movies. Inside bowling and ping-pong are always in play and the karaoke machine is always on with the latest talent singing.

It has taken a community to get these teen nights up and running. From the IVRPD Board and volunteers to the community members who donated the karaoke machine, pool table, other equipment and time, all have been engaged in giving local teens a place to be themselves and enjoy being teenagers in a safe environment.
Amy Hafsrud, Activities Coordinator, and Rachel McDowell, SI Intern, are on hand to oversee the evenings. Together they plan the activities and future projects for the teens. One future project is a program by SWEET, a drama group geared to performing for teens promoting healthy life-style choices.

"All week long I look forward to Friday Nights!" says Taryn Lind. And he's not alone! The Facebook page for Friday Night For Teens is how the word gets out and the chat online is yes, yes, yes...it's time for Friday Night For Teens!
Friday Nights For Teens meets at 7pm on Friday nights, unless there is a conflict with school activities such as a sporting or social event. Friday Nights for Teens is always looking for volunteers or donations. For more information, contact Amy Hafsrud or Rachel McDowell at 530.284.1022.
